People & Culture

Our story

For more than 50 years, Fremantle Steel Group has been family founded, owned and operated. In that time it has grown into a major name in Western Australian structural steel.

The Group was formed through the merger of Fremantle Steel Fabrication and Park Engineers. With our transport arm, Interstate Crane and Transport Hire, we can manufacture and deliver anywhere in Australia.

Founder Vince D’Amato built the company on being involved at every level. Our managers work closely with clients to get the best result, supported by loyal local suppliers.

“We have a highly experienced team with an exceptional standard of skills who are passionate about steel fabrication and adding value to our customers’ projects.”

— Vince D’Amato, Founder

Today the next generation carries that approach forward, with Laurie, Mark and Stephen D’Amato each leading a core part of the business.

A family business, close to the job

Being family owned shapes how we work. Decisions are made close to the job, by people who know the workshop floor and know our clients by name.

Our managers work alongside clients from first drawings to final delivery. That means fewer handovers, faster answers and a team that owns the result.

We are proud to support local industry. Long-standing relationships with our trusted Western Australian working partners underpin the reliability and consistency we deliver to our clients.

Our people

Our people are the heart of our business. We invest in training and developing skilled tradespeople, including apprentices, and we’re proud of the many team members who have built long careers with us. We are committed to a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace where everyone is treated with dignity.

Our values

Six core values guide our people and our work:

  • Safety first: the health and wellbeing of our people is always our top priority
  • Integrity: we act honestly, ethically and openly
  • Respect: we treat everyone with dignity, fairness and professionalism
  • Accountability: we take personal responsibility for our actions and decisions
  • Excellence: we aim for the highest standards in fabrication quality, safety and service
  • Environmental responsibility: we care for the communities and environment around us

Our two pillars: safety and quality

What guides every job

Everyone goes home safe, every day. Quality is built in at every step—not inspected in at the end.

Two of these values stand above the rest: safety first, and excellence, which for us means quality. Both are shared responsibilities, owned by everyone from the Executive Team to our newest apprentice.

Safety

Everyone goes home safe, every day.

  • Prevention-focused training
  • Leadership on the floor
  • Looking out for each other

Quality

Built in at every step, not inspected at the end.

  • AS/NZS ISO 9001 quality system
  • Personal ownership of every job
  • Full traceability, drawing to site

Our vision

To be a world-class organisation in structural steel fabrication, driven by innovation and a focus on performance for our customers. We will get there through safe and responsible work, real value for our clients, and innovative, motivated and skilled people.

More than 50 years on, the values Vince built the business on still hold: stay close to the client, keep every person safe, and never compromise on quality.
