Resources & Mining

Supporting Australia’s resource sector

Fremantle Steel Group has supplied structural steel, platework and materials handling structures to mining and resource processing projects for decades, from the Pilbara iron ore operations to the lithium plants of Kwinana, Kemerton and Greenbushes.

Recent packages include 1,251 tonnes of structural steelwork and platework for the Rio Tinto Yandi Sustaining Project, 917 tonnes for the pyromet, hydromet and piperacks of the Tianqi lithium hydroxide plant, 350 tonnes of lined structural steel and platework for the Roy Hill ultrafine iron ore recovery plant, and structural steel and platforms for Pilgangoora. Staged delivery into remote sites is planned with the group’s own transport fleet, and every component carries a QR code so a client’s site team can confirm what has arrived against the model.

Typical projects include:

  • Conveyors
  • Trestles and trusses
  • Hoppers and chutes
  • ROM bins
  • Workshop and process plant structures
  • Shiploaders and bulk handling infrastructure

FAQ

Common questions

What types of mining and resource projects does Fremantle Steel Group support?

Processing plants, materials handling and conveyors, train load-out and bulk handling structures, piperacks, workshops and sustaining capital works, for iron ore, lithium, gold and nickel operations.

Can you fabricate and deliver steelwork for remote mining operations?

Yes. Deliveries to the Pilbara are part of the group’s regular work, using prime movers and cranes from Interstate Crane & Transport Hire, a group company, with pre-assembly at Jandakot to cut site hours.

What materials handling infrastructure can Fremantle Steel Group manufacture?

Conveyor structures and trestles, transfer towers, hoppers, chutes and bins, screen and crusher structures, and the modules that carry drive trains, with lining and surface treatment coordinated before delivery.

How do you manage quality and traceability for mining projects?

Under ISO 9001, with welding to AS/NZS ISO 3834 Part 2 and structural steel to AS/NZS 5131 CC3. Each component is QR-coded from cut to delivery, so material certificates and weld records follow the piece to site.

Can you support staged delivery programmes for large resource projects?

Yes. 30,000 square metres of laydown lets completed areas wait for their delivery window, and the 4D schedule ties dispatch to the erection sequence.

Do you provide transport and logistics services to regional and remote sites?

Yes. Interstate Crane & Transport Hire, a group company, operates 10 prime movers (as at October 2026) with multi-combination trailers, and mobile cranes from 25 to 160 tonnes. It holds Western Australian Heavy Vehicle Accreditation for fatigue management, dimension and loading, and maintenance.
