Energy

Building Australia’s energy future

Fremantle Steel Group fabricates for oil and gas, power generation, transmission and waste-to-energy projects, where the quality record matters as much as the steel. Structural steel, piperacks, pipe supports, platforms and modules are fabricated under an AS/NZS ISO 3834 Part 2 welding system with full NDT and traceability.

The group’s LNG experience includes work for Wheatstone, Ichthys and Pluto, and recent energy packages include 400 tonnes of structural steelwork for the Kwinana waste-to-energy plant.

Typical projects include:

  • LNG and gas processing facilities
  • Waste-to-energy plants
  • Substations and transmission structures
  • Pipe supports and piperacks
  • Solar and battery storage structures
  • Plant upgrades and expansions
Our steelwork erection is considered one of the major successes of the project so far. Rob Schmidt Project Material Manager - Darwin LNG Bechtel
FAQs

Common questions

What types of energy projects does Fremantle Steel Group support?

LNG and gas processing, waste-to-energy, transmission and substation structures, solar and battery installations, and process plant upgrades.

Do you have experience working on oil and gas infrastructure projects?

Yes. The group’s oil and gas experience includes the Wheatstone, Ichthys and Pluto LNG projects.

How do your quality systems support energy sector requirements?

Welding is certified to AS/NZS ISO 3834 Part 2 across MMAW, SAW, GMAW, FCAW and TIG, with qualified welding coordinators, documented procedures and NDT recorded per weld. That is the record an energy client’s QA auditor expects to find.

Can you fabricate structural steel for processing plants and utilities infrastructure?

Yes: plant structures, piperacks, pipe supports, platforms and access, and pre-assembled modules, with coatings coordinated for coastal and process environments.

How does Fremantle Steel Group manage project compliance and documentation?

Through the inspection and test plan agreed at award and the manufacturer’s data report compiled as work proceeds, with material and weld traceability by QR code on each component.

Can you coordinate fabrication, transport and site delivery as part of a single package?

Yes. Interstate Crane & Transport Hire, a group company, operates 10 prime movers (as at October 2026) with multi-combination trailers, and mobile cranes from 25 to 160 tonnes. It holds Western Australian Heavy Vehicle Accreditation for fatigue management, dimension and loading, and maintenance.
