Certified Australian fabrication for defence estate projects

Defence infrastructure needs Australian fabricators with certified systems, controlled documentation and a workforce that can be accounted for. Fremantle Steel Group fabricates at Jandakot with a directly employed Australian workforce, under ISO 9001, AS/NZS ISO 3834 Part 2 and AS/NZS 5131 CC3, with every component traceable to its material certificate.

The group supports primes and Tier 1 contractors with the inspection and traceability records their contracts require.

Typical projects include:

  • Estate and facility upgrades
  • Workshops and maintenance facilities
  • Warehouses and logistics buildings
  • Training facilities
  • Secure infrastructure
FAQs

Common questions

What defence work does Fremantle Steel Group do?

Fremantle Steel Group can fabricate structural steel for defence estate and facility projects: workshops and maintenance buildings, warehouses and logistics buildings, training facilities and command and administration buildings, fabricated for primes and Tier 1 contractors.

Is the work done in Australia by Australian employees?

Yes. Fabrication is at Jandakot, Western Australia, by a directly employed workforce. Australian content is preferred where tenders are equally competitive.

Which certifications do you hold?

ISO 9001:2015, certified continuously since 1996; AS/NZS ISO 3834 Part 2 comprehensive welding quality; AS/NZS 5131 Construction Category CC3, including architecturally exposed structural steelwork; and Steel Sustainability Australia Level 2B. The management system is aligned with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

How is traceability handled?

Every component is QR-coded and scanned through cut and drill, assembly, welding and NDT, surface treatment, dispatch and site delivery, linking the piece to its mill certificate, weld records and inspection results. The manufacturer’s data report is compiled as work proceeds.

Can you meet security and access requirements on defence sites?

Site access, inductions and security requirements are met as the head contractor’s contract sets them, and personnel records are maintained under the group’s training and competency system. Specific clearance requirements are confirmed at tender.

How early should a defence contractor engage you?

At concept or tender stage. Early involvement lets us advise on section selection, including custom welded sections that can reduce weight, on transport and lift limits, on pre-assembly and trial fit-up, and on delivery sequencing, before those choices are fixed in the design. We price from preliminary drawings and refine as the design develops.
