Local capability delivers landmark bridge project on tight time line
When the Matagarup Bridge project moved to a locally delivered fabrication strategy, Fremantle Steel Group was engaged to manufacture major structural steel components for the bridge deck.
FSG’s package of about 500 tonnes of deck steel covered fabrication, trial assembly, treatment coordination, pre-assembly and delivery. Trial assembly allowed the steelwork to be checked before it left the workshop, providing greater control over fit and readiness for installation on the constrained river site.
The completed bridge created a direct pedestrian connection between East Perth and Optus Stadium. Published project material identifies FSG as the fabricator responsible for the deck, while the wider bridge incorporated 22 deck modules and 50 arch modules.
